regulations. And that's not all, by choosing St. John Ambulance

community service volunteers.
First Aid Training can enhance your company's bottom line!
Research
has proven that first aid training can reduce on-the-job injuries.
Find out more about how St. John Ambulance First Aid training can
reduce downtime and benefit your bottom line.
Improve Your Bottom Line. Injuries Are Costly
Workplace injuries are costly to employees and employers alike.
Every hour of every day millions of dollars are spent on medical
expenses as a result of injuries. These injuries cost Canada
billions of dollars each year.
 | One of every four accidents* occurs in the workplace
|
 | 98% of these incidents result in injury
|
 | 95% of those injuries result in activity loss. |
Injuries are costly - costly to your employee, who pays the price in
human suffering and inactivity; costly to you, who as an employer
faces both direct and indirect costs; and, costly to the nation - a
nation struggling under the burden of increasing health care costs.
Has your company joined the growing ranks that recognize that an
investment in health and safety is a direct contribution to the
bottom line? Is your company ensuring that your employees have a
safe and injury-free workplace?
*An accident is defined as something that is unpredictable,
something we have no control over. Research indicates that 90% of
injuries are predictable and preventable. At St. John Ambulance we
prefer the word incident to describe how someone gets injured,
because accidents can be prevented through safety sense.
Since introducing safety-oriented first aid training, St. John
Ambulance has trained almost 15 million Canadians. Our experience,
and our commitment to training excellence, makes St. John Ambulance
the best first aid training choice for your workplace.
The Benefits of First Aid Training
Employees Become More Aware of Injury-Causing Situations
St. John Ambulance first aid training increases employee awareness
of injury-causing situations anytime, anywhere. Since everybody can
encounter injuries on-and off-the-job, St. John Ambulance recommends
that you train the entire organization, including all employees
working in high-risk areas, executives, managers and office staff.
Your Company Will Benefit With Every Person Trained in First Aid.
 | First aid training makes employees more safety conscious and
reduces the incidence of injuries at work.
|
 | First aid training can provide protection, security and
prompt treatment in case of injury.
|
 | Immediate first aid can save lives, reduce the severity of
injuries and promote speedy recovery.
|
 | An improved safety record and the employer's demonstration
of concern for safety enhances morale and increases
productivity. |
Significant Costs of Workplace Injury
The case for an investment in first aid training is clear when you
consider both the direct and indirect cost of injuries.
The direct costs of injuries may include:
 | provincially run compensation program premiums, assessments
and surcharges.
|
 | wage compensation, medical, hospital and rehabilitation
costs.
|
 | pensions for dependents of fatally injured workers.
|
 | property damage and loss. |
The indirect costs of injuries include, among other things:
 | administration of injury claims.
|
 | in-plant medical personnel and supplies.
|
 | time spent by first aid attendant.
|
 | failure to meet orders, production losses and associated
overtime.
|
At Spiritwood Ambulance Care, we believe it makes good business
sense to invest in first aid training.

First Aid Courses for The Workplace
Flexible, Modular System Meets Workplace Needs
The St. John Ambulance modular system of first aid training was
designed with the needs of the workplace in mind. The concept is
simple:
There are basic first aid skills that every student should know.
Those are the compulsory lessons, in both the Emergency and Standard
Level First Aid courses. You, together with a St. John Ambulance
representative, can then select elective lessons, to complement
these basic skills and customize the training to the specific
workplace environment.
Our courses include a manual, activity book exercises, detailed
video presentations and practical hands-on sessions. Practical
skills are assessed throughout the sessions. Those successfully
completing the practical session and final evaluation receive the
appropriate St. John Ambulance certificate and pocket card.
Emergency Level First Aid
This minimum 6-1/2 hour course gives participants critical knowledge
and the confidence to effectively manage an emergency, without panic
or confusion. The focus is on giving first aid for common injuries
that could occur in the workplace, or at home. It gives participants
the basic skills needed to reduce shock, contain injuries and in
many cases, save lives.
Standard Level First Aid
This minimum 13-hour course is designed for those who need more
first aid knowledge and skills. Students learn through the same
practical, hands-on lesson format as in the Emergency Level course,
but with a wider selection of elective topics.
For more information on these or any of our courses, just give us a
call. We'd be pleased to schedule an appointment and discuss your
training requirements.
